A winning blend of natural beauty and golfing adventure, the Championship golf courses at Galway Bay Golf Resort are regarded among the very best golf courses in Ireland. When designing the course, former Ryder Cup and World Cup golfer Christy O'Connor Jnr superbly blended the stunning backdrop of Galway Bay and the rugged curves of the Atlantic coastline with mature trees, water hazards, concealed bunkers and highly acclaimed putting surfaces. With variable wind speed and directions, this Championship golf course plays differently each day posing a considerable challenge to even the lowest handicap golfers, yet it is a true and fair test of golf. As you decide on club selection, the magnificent panorama of Galway Bay and its beauty is unveiled before you, with the hills of Clare to the South, while to the West sits the majestic city of Galway – city of the tribes – surrounding the rugged and unpredictable Atlantic Ocean.

Westport Golf Course was designed by the internationally renowned Golf architect, Fred Hawtree, of the renowned British firm of Hawtree and Sons. He said of the course, "the nature of the terrain, part inland and part seaside, the panorama which it commands and its considerable golfing virtues, make it uniquely attractive and memorable." The course, which played host to the 2002 Smurfit Irish P.G.A. Championship, is a magnificent 18 hole parkland course with breath taking views of Croagh Patrick and Clew Bay. Westport will leave great memories of a unique course. Each hole offers a challenge under the watchful eye of Croagh Patrick. The 11th, with its Everest like fairway, the par three 12th and the index one, par four 13th, is the Amen Corner. After leaving the newly designed 13th, you arrive at the par three 14th, where Croagh Patrick fills the skyline. The first of the feature holes is your next test, a drive over the Atlantic Ocean, for men only, as the ladies are invited to tee from a forward position. Then you are nearly home with two chances of birdies on the 16th and 17th holes. You reach your destination, the second feature hole at Carrowholly. The majestic 18th hole has a narrow fairway, with water from tee to green up the right. You reach the green in regulation and are met with the ultimate challenge a vast, undulating green.
