Glendalough, Powerscourt & the Wicklow Mountains Day Tour

Single Day Tour Starts in Dublin & Ends in Dublin

Tour highlights

Take this tour and contrast the song and dance of Dublin with the peace and beauty of Glendalough, Powerscourt, and the Wicklow Mountains.

Powerscourt House and Gardens

Your tour will depart Dublin at 09:15am from opposite the Kilkenny Shop, Nassau St, Dublin.

Heading south of Dublin, your first stop of the day is at the Powerscourt House and Gardens. You can wander through the manicured lawns, explore an ornate Japanese garden, and gaze into the rooms of a masterly mansion. It’s a house that rivals the finest manors in England.

Avoca Village, Store and Café

From Powerscourt, you will journey south to Avoca village, a place made famous in song by Irish Poet, Thomas Moore. The rivers here were the source of power for mills that exported woven goods throughout Europe. Avoca is known for fine food and is a great spot for you to enjoy a bite to eat at a local café or shop for traditionally crafted goods.

Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough

Heading back into the Wicklow Mountains, your next stop is at the famous Glendalough. Here you will have time take a pilgrimage up to the lovely lakes, praise the history at the visitor center, and bask in the serenity of the monastic city ruins.

Lough Tay, The Guinness Lake

Next, you can grab a picture of Ireland’s ‘Guinness Lake’. But don’t expect a lake full of creamy beer. It’s a scenic lake on the land the Guinness family own that looks a little like a pint.

Sally Gap and the Village of Enniskerry

On the way a back to Dublin, you stop at Sally Gap for a beautiful view, and take in the quaint and cute village of Enniskerry.

Weather in Ireland is unpredictable. When there’s snow, ice, and fog, we occasionally avoid the route via Sally Gap and Lough Tay and give you extra time to enjoy Glendalough and Enniskerry.

Return to Dublin at 6:30pm.

Tour operator

"We love travel as much as you do. We prefer it to any roller-coaster, movie, or concert. But there are a few things we don’t always love about travel. Like when you get stranded on a dark single track road. Or end up at a large hotel that serves frozen food made 1,000 miles away. Or when you see something incredible, and have no way of finding out what it is. So, our award-winning small-group tours take care of details and ensure you and your driver-guide’s adventures are free from the things that make travel less lovable.

Here’s how we deliver travel experiences you’ll love:

You learn from the best storytellers. And this is no overstatement. Our driver-guides are world famous for their knowledge, facts, quirky stories, history, and fairy-tales. They truly take you beyond the guidebooks and into your adventure.

You explore in top of the range 16 seat mini-coaches. This means you never get lost, you always take the scenic route, you have great views through large windows, and you’re free to sample the local tipple without worrying about driving.

You support the local communities. You do this because we take you to the lesser known attractions and recommend locally owned accommodation. What’s more, for every ton of carbon we use, we donate £10 to environmental and community projects.

You make your trip your own. We provide the timetable; and along the way you can choose where you want to eat, sleep and which attractions you want to see. So, if you want to stop off and feed a highland cow or maybe linger longer in the castle courtyard with a glass of wine, you can.

Guaranteed departures: you book, you go. When you choose to book with us, you’re going - no minimum numbers.

Guaranteed experience or your money back. If you feel you’ve not had the experience you deserved, and we’re at fault, we’ll give you your money back.

So, take a tour with us and learn to love travel even more than you thought you could."

What's included

Dublin is a lively city with lots to do, but after a few days spent enjoying you may want to spend a few hours somewhere a little calmer, like Wicklow perhaps? Located under an hour from Dublin, Wicklow is an oasis of heavenly beauty and geological wonders.

Relax at a riverside monastic city in Glendalough, and saunter around the gorgeous gardens and marvelous mansion at Powerscourt House, before heading into the local craft shops in the charming village of Avoca. Along the way enjoy the scenic beauty of the Wicklow Mountains.

Places you will explore:

  • Glendalough: Discover a hidden-away abbey in a soul-stirringly beautiful valley.
  • Wicklow Mountains: These majestic mountains are as beautiful as they are historically fascinating.
  • Powerscourt House and Gardens: You’ll be green with envy at these gardens, that were once voted the third best in the world by National Geographic Magazine.
  • Avoca: Over the years, this scenic village has hosted miners, inspired writers, and attracted film makers.
  • Sally Gap: Ireland's best-known mountain pass, Sally Gap offers inspiring views over Wicklow Mountain National Park.
  • Lough Tay: They call this the Guinness Lake. It doesn’t taste like the black stuff, but the circular shape, dark peat water, and frothy white sand shoreline looks like it.
  • Enniskerry Village: This village is as cute as a bag of sleeping kittens and was originally built for the people who worked at Powerscourt House.
